Born in 1865 in Gajdobra, married Anna Ohler in 1888. They came to the US in 1907 with their 3 children (Nicholas, Rosa and Anna). He was a shoemaker in Hungary but worked at the Studebaker plant in South Bend, Indiana. He started the German Club, called Deutcher Fortbildungs Verein. The main purpose of the club was social but also to provide sick and death benefits to its members.
