____________________________________
For the first time in the known history of German - American singing societies in the United States, a father and son were elevated to the presidency and vice presidency of a recognized society when the Arbeiter Maenner and Damenchor of Trenton seated the pair in its top executive positions.
Joseph J. Feldenzer Sr. of 18 Ashmore Avenue, recently accepted the presidency at the age of 71 years, succeeding Emil Bambach. He brings an experienced background in club administration to the Arbeiter club, having served as a president of the Aurora Gesang Verein and also as treasurer of the same group for many years. Feldenzer also was the first president of the United Singers of the City of Trenton. He is a state employee in his 27th year as head of the meat department at the State Hospital in Greystone Park.
His son, John J. Feldenzer, who was seated as vice president, succeeds Ernest Dehne and is a well known Trenton educator. He is a member of the faculty of Jefferson School. He is the founder and past president of the South Jersey Athletic Conference, having served in the executive chair for three years. Currently he serves at the following administrative positions: vice president of the Trenton Education Association; president of the First Parapaser Yearly Sick Benefit Society and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in education at Columbia University, New York City.
Editors note: The above article (ca. 1955) was sent to us by John Andrew Feldenzer of Roanoke, Virginia whose uncle Anthony (Trenton, New Jersey) gave to him. Joseph J. Feldenzer was born in Palanka, Hungary and his line splits from John Andrew Feldenzers line at Jacob and Marianna (geb. Mayer) Feldenzer. Joseph came to the U.S.A on November 1, 1909 (ship records show October 28th) on the S.S. Chicago from the port of Havre, Bordeaux of the "French Line" with his wife Frances (geb. Marzluft) and daughter Maria (Mary). Joseph owned his own Meat shop at one time. In the Trenton 1920 census it shows Joseph and Frances with five (5) children living at 18 Ashmore Ave ..... around the corner from John Andrews family at 908 Chestnut Ave and the line of John Francis Feldenzer at 1829 Chestnut Ave.
