1.) 1954 -- It's that Shoemaker fellow again, this time winning a remarkable 94 races during the meet's 41-day run, a Del Mar standard that may never be topped. The "Shoe" teamed up with trainer R. H. (Red) McDaniel that year to nearly breakup the game at the seashore: McDaniel saddles a record 47 winners, giving Shoemaker a leg-up on 42 of them.
2.) 2003 - Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame nominees released : SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER NEWS SERVICES
AUBURN -- Nominees for the inaugural Washington Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame were released yesterday.
A dozen nominees appear in jockey, horse and trainer categories, while three appear in each of two breeder (pre-1970 and post-1970) categories.
Rounding out the trainer nominees are Wayne Branch, Allen Drumheller, Ben Harris, Francis Keller, Bud Klokstad, R.H. "Red" McDaniel, Jim Penney, Hump Roberts, Kathy Walsh and Glen Williams.
